“Businesses are the engines of economic growth and vitality… We should be mindful of their labor force needs when considering public policies.”
Juliana Kerr, Director, Immigration Initiative, The Chicago Council on Global Affairs
Immigration policy is making headlines daily with conflicting perspectives on the prospects for reform. Nationwide, people agree that the current system doesn’t reflect the realities of a twenty-first century global economy and policymakers on both sides of the aisle have released their broad principles and priorities. Yet they still face complicated questions and are divided on how to move forward. As members of the House of Representatives went into recess, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Congressman Luis Gutiérrez (D-IL), Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), and Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL) discussed the immigration debate. The Chicago Council Survey of Midwest Business Leaders on Immigration was available at the program.
